the good old days

the good old days

~remember going to the corner store on Saturday mornings  when you were a kid? if you were lucky you had one, maybe two shiny bright silver coins clutched in your tiny, grubby little hand on “candy day” to spend on pixie sticks,  mmm, mint mojos, sour cherry tangy taffy or a bottle of pop? remember when soda pop was in actual green glass chilled bottles? remember the pop called aspen? an apple flavoured fizzy concoction…..I recall buying it because I was totally crushing on John Denver at the time, (ok, no judging!!!) not because I really loved the fake apple flavoured stuff  i guess it reminded me of the song ” rocky mountain high”..who knows????… gosh, what a nerd…..  oh yes, and my fave, the tiny, black jawbreakers all liquoricey and layered in rainbow colours that eventually revealed themselves, bit after bit, sloooowly melting.  remember how the corner store guy used to put all our penny candy in tiny  brown paper bags? even then those bags seemed so small when we were just as small ourselves. those were the good old days…..happy saturday all!

  1. I love this! You have sent me back to those small brown paper bags and penny candies. How my dad bought me an Orange Crush every Saturday. And along with the nostalgia you brought me some laughter and another gorgeous photo. Thanks! Hugs, Gina

  2. Ah, such SWEET memories! Thank you! I remember foot-long red and black licorice for a penny, 5 cent Big Hunk candy bars, huge (compared to today’s sizes) chocolate and nut candy bars for 10 cents, wax lips, and 1 cent bubble gum! YUM! My friend and I would collect bottles and aluminum cans all week and then go to our corner drug store and LOAD UP!
