…..Roma or La Citta Eterna, the eternal city. She is truly an ancient beauty. So much history she has on her cobblestoned streets. If one were to slow down the pace and simply breathe it all in I imagine you could hear the ghost voices spilling their tales of religion, corruption, money, power and greed. Four short days in September was not nearly enough time tripping around the winding streets that led us to places I will not ever forget. Even from the windows of our wicked cool apartment in Campo de Fiori we could experience life in a Roman piazza. A bustling day market wakes us up from down below coming to life far before most of us have even had a morning shot of espresso. Produce vendors selling their perfectly arranged, in season and local fruits and colourful vegetables add much life. There was a lovely flower market, pasta stalls with every size and shape imaginable, fruity olive oils, fragrant cheeses and robust salamis.Of course, as always the tacky tourist t-shirt stalls for good measure. Both tourists and locals gather here alike. One word of caution though… do not touch the produce! For real, trust me! You want to see a full grown man have a fit? Go ahead touch those peaches!! LOL.. Come night time the day market breaks down to make way for a bustling night place full of people, young and old. Throw in a few street entertainers and a handful of gypsies selling their china knock offs and voila you have a piazza that is the perfect square of electric energy. Well, what do they say? When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
one more thing…. this short video of Anna Magnani playing Mama Roma is quite entertaining!
