Yes, it is Valentines Day once again. A “Hallmark” holiday? Yes, it can be, but it doesn’t have to be. Time for loving up our sweethearts with something a little extra special today. Flowers, cards and chocolates? Sure, that’s great, who doesn’t love those? BUT what about sharing the love a little bit further. What about our communities? Our neighbourhoods? Our youth. Our elderly? Random acts of kindness?
Bumbling around the blogosphere I came across this amazing project happening in my back yard. Beautiful Vancouver B.C. I am so happy to know this is going on out there. There are amazing people doing wonderful caring things. Please take a moment to be inspired by our community leaders and this project. Then perhaps you will be inspired to do something similar in your own neighborhood.
The Love Umbrella Project is an art-based media campaign and photo exhibition, created to share stories about how love illuminates Vancouver and its communities.
“young people from diverse backgrounds and with multiple barriers gather to discover their creative voice. They come to gain the skills and confidence to share and document their experiences – and inspire others down a path of peace. Partnering with dozens of schools, alternative programs, and community organizations, we try hard to reach those often excluded from other mainstream initiatives.”
“We are continuously inspired by the brilliant young people that we work with, by their incredible resilience and dedication in dealing with their own traumatic situations. By their ability to get to the heart of their problems, the love they show each other every day is boundless. The love they project into our community is a direct reflection of how much each of them carries within.” ~ The Love Umbrella Project
Happy Valentines Day!
