the tea dog

How much is that doggie in the window? The one with the waggley tail. How much is that doggie in the window? I do hope that doggies for sale. ~ Patti Page

dog b&w It is a great childhood memory of mine, these miniature ceramic animals. It was the  70’s  when these little guys appeared nestled in a bed of pillowy orange pekoe at our home.  Yuck, I hated tea but we begged for it just to get another trinket surprise from  red cardboard box.  An auburn fox,  an African elephant, a tiny bunny, my favourite….the horse of course. You could collect all of them but you had to buy the  Red Rose tea…..  I had long forgotten about these tiny treasures until I spied a massive grouping of them at a local antique store. The little dog caught my eye straight away, so sweetly sitting amongst a circus of decaffeinated critters. Ahhh, to be a kid again.

  1. Hey I think they must have done this again in the 90’s….because I wasn’t alive in the 70’s and I remember these! I LOVED them. Good thing is we all loved red rose tea. ….But where did they go? Great picture that made my heart leap with nostalgia.

  2. Thanks!! You are right, they started making them in the 30’s and then the last info I could find is there was a “pet shop” series that ended in 2008… I should have bought one…next time.. cheers
