inside out

Being in a hotel room is such a grand luxury. Usually it means a vacation of a sort for my family. A getaway. A wee holiday from the grind of it all. Even if only for one night.

Life slows down to turtle speed, worries melt away. No dirty toilets calling or laundry piles on the brain. No meals to be hunted, gathered and cooked. YES, and it all comes in at a guilt free price. Know why? Because you deserve it, that’s why. Welcome to the land of milk and honey. Even if it is for only one. sweet. night.

The time is right for an afternoon nap, a magazine to be savoured. A cold beer at 11:30 am. Time to  mindlessly stare at street scenes playing out down below or the billowy clouds drifting by.  See the people going to and fro, see the birds riding the blue wind. Time to silently step backwards, reverse out from your own life. That in itself is a frilly indulgence.
Do YOU have a luxury or a splurge that you treat yourself to guilt free? Something that helps you ‘center’ and realign? Please share…..:0)

  1. I guess my luxury would be my riding lessons. I know how to ride but there is something about the fine tuning of an awesome instructor that keeps me coming back for more.
More 20m circles, not ellipticals, changing reins on the diagonals, holding a posting trot until my legs and abs are screaming, and of course the torture of sitting trot.
The challenge of pushing my body while I learn an even deeper respect and love for my equine friend who is also being put through his paces with grace and fluid beauty.
We are a team for that hour and we both look forward to when we leave the arena, sweaty and tired, to head back to the barn for a long rub down and a huge bucket of carrots. I of course end my day with a caloric balance…..cold beer!
